In the morning you will head to Zipaquira, the former center of salt production of the Muisca Indiana. The main attraction is the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira. The Salt Cathedral was opened in honor of the patron saint of the miners. After the salt has been taken out, these are empty rooms and chambers now. Besides the altar which weighs 22 tons, many other parts of the cathedral consist entirely of salt. Get enchanted by one of the largest religious buildings in the world. After you already visited the famous gold museum in Bogotá, you will follow the legend of „El Dorado“ by visiting the „Laguna de Guatavita“ today. This crater lake is situated at an altitude of 3.000 meters. This legend is says that heir to the throne were crowned here. During these ceremonies gold offerings were sunk. According to the legend, alligators, grogs, fish and monkeys made of pure gold were fished from the lake whereupon the legendary treasure of the „El Dorado“ is still untraceable. You walk up a steep path up to 3.000 meters until you reach the crater rim. From here you will see the magic looking lagoon. Your trip starts with a drive out of the city to the Bogotá Savannah. From here you will visit the Paramo de Chingaza in the Chingaza National Park where you will enjoy a hike (different levels) around different lakes and frailejon trees. These mysterious lakes are part of the El Dorado legend. The park is of very high importance for the area of Bogotá as it provides 80% of the high quality potable water of this area. Furthermore the park inhabits a high quantity of animals such as bears, deer, pumas, opossums etc. and up to 180 bird species. The park ranges between ca. 800 and 4.000 meters of altitude and contains about 40 lakes. The largest one is called Lake Chingaza and is located at about 3.250 meters altitude.

Welcome to the highest waterfall of Colombia! Just one hour drive from the bustling capital city, you will be in the middle of nature.
The hike surrounded by beautiful landscapes takes about 3-4 hours in total. The level is moderate – it goes up- and downhill. Good walking shoes are recommended. Once you get to the waterfall “La Chorrera” (after about 1,5-2 hours) you will take a break and enjoy the beautiful surroundings before heading back to the entrance of the park.
