La Guajira is a peninsula in the north of Colombia. It is a desert full of contrasts between sea, sand, coal, salt, cactus and a small green oasis. The Santa Marta mountain range creates a natural barrier between this department and the rest of the country. Furthermore it is home to the indigenous community, the Wayúu, who have a rich and amazing culture. Stepping into La Guajira is like stepping into the Sahara.
