On today’s agenda: A city Tour through Colombia’s capital.
Your trip starts by heading to the Monserrate hill. The cable car takes you up to the top of Monserrate, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the bustling metropolis of Bogotá. Afterwards you will visit the historic downtown of Bogotá “La Candelaria” with its magnificent churches, the government palace and the "Plaza Bolivar.” Furthermore you will visit the famous gold museum “Museo del Oro” (closed on Mondays) and the smaragd museum (closed on Sundays) as well as the museum of Botero where you can marvel at the many great art works of the famous Colombian artist – for example the “Mona Lisa” in exaggerated shape.
Bogotá is an inspiring city that has something new to offer every day. In 2010, Bogotá was selected as a Must See Destination by the renowned newspaper The New York Times.

After breakfast you will head towards Villa de Leyva. On your way you will take a break in Zipaquira, the former center of salt production of the Musica Indiana. The main attraction is the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira. It consists entirely of salt, and thus this cathedral is located in a salt mine it belongs to the largest religious buildings in the world. The Salt Cathedral was opened in honor of the patron saint of the miners. Then you will head on to the Lagoon Guatavita.
After your visit at the famous gold museum in Bogotá yesterday, you will follow the legend of „El Dorado“ by visiting the „Laguna de Guatavita“ today. This crater lake is situated at an altitude of 3.000 meters. This legend is says that heir to the throne were crowned here. During these ceremonies gold offerings were sunk. According to the legend, alligators, grogs, fish and monkeys made of pure gold were fished from the lake whereupon the legendary treasure of the „El Dorado“ is still untraceable. You walk up a steep path up to 3.000 meters until you reach the crater rim. From here you will see the magic looking lagoon. Your guide will tell you the history of this magical place as you walk along the crater rim. Afterwards you will head on to Villa de Leyva, a nice colonial village in Colombia. Today you explore the beautiful colonial town, Villa de Leyva. Discover its churches and Spanish colonial buildings as well as several sights in the surrounding of Villa de Leyva.
This picturesque village gives the impression of another world which is full of stories. You encounter big windows, Moorish balconies and white facades. Get enchanted by the magic of this special and unique town.
Furthermore you visit the Santo Ecce Homo Monastery. In 1620, it was built as a center of evangelization by Dominicans. You also visit the museum El Fosil with its fascinating collection of fossils. Here you will find most of the pieces that were ever found on earth and that have been maintained for thousands of years. Tonight you will return to the Colombian capital and spend the night there. After breakfast, you continue your trip to Ráquira. In the language of the Chibcha, Ráquira means something like "city of the pots." It is known as the capital of the Colombian handicrafts. The city itself is painted in primary colors and has got a big place with lots of ceramic statues. Here you can watch how people make their handcrafts and of course, you can buy one or more arts and crafts for yourself. Once you arrive in Bogotá, you will cath your flight to Medellín – known as the city of eternal spring. (B/-/-)TAG 6Medellín – City Tour & Santa Elena - "The Village of Flowers"
The Medellin-City-Tour starts at the Pueblito Paisa, a replica of a historic Paisa village on the Cerro Nutibara. Here you can enjoy a stunning view of the city. Our next destination is the cities historical center. On the way to it we will stop to watch and listen to the local musicians and the traditional Guasca music while visiting the Parque Berrio in the heart of the historic center of Medellin. Then we visit the Plaza Botero, which has an extensive exhibition of the famous sculptures of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Through the hustle and bustle of downtown Medellin we continue the tour towards to the Parque de Bolivar one of the most beautiful squares of Medellin. Then we will take the “Metro Cable” up to Santo Domingo, which was once a notorious area of gang violence in Medellin. The cable car was constructed to make the inner city more accessible to people on the outskirts, and allows visitors a glimpse into the lives of the marginalized population. While enjoying the spectacular view you learn more about the transformation of Medellin from one of the most dangerous cities in the world into a fascinating melting pot of cultures with one of the friendliest and warmest people in the world.
From Santo Domingo station we will enjoy another ride with the cable car up to the nature reserve Parque Arvi nearby the lovely town of Santa Elena – the flower village. The reserve covers 16,000 ha of lush forest and is situated on approximately 2,300m above sea level. Due to its altitude and mild climate it is the perfect area to escape the city and enjoy the landscape consisting of forests and wetlands. We will pick you up at the Parque Arví station and go on with our tour to Santa Elena, which is known as the origin of the famous floral arrangements that have become a cultural symbol of Medellin. These flowers are used in the largest festival in Medellin, the Feria de las Flores (Festival of Flowers). Here we will visit the house of real “silletero” and an organic flower farm to learn more about the traditional flower culture of Santa Elena.TAG 7Transfer to Guatapé & “La Piedra del Peñol” / Flight to Cartagena
Guatapé is a charming little village consisting of colorful houses with all kinds of decoration and trim. Each house shows the artistic ability of its owner. The paintings on the home express the traditions of this region. Each panel has its own style of window decoration, consisting of flowers, animals, or characters that got inspired by the Spanish colonial times.
La Piedra del Peñol (Santa Fe Antioquia) is located 80km northwest of Medellin. It is the oldest, most beautiful village in the department of Antioquia. Due to that, it is also known as La Ciudad Madre (the mother city). Besides it belongs to the national cultural heritage. The houses were built according to the colonial period. Visit the most beautiful churches of the country, whereas each of them has a different of construction. Enjoy exotic fruits, for example tamarinds which are from this region. Besides you will experience the attractions, Cartagena offers such as cultural festivals, beautiful beaches, fine dining, a lively nightlife and a significant hotel and tourism infrastructure.
During your walking tour through the old city you will pass the representing streets and squares of the colonial city. Visit the church and the monastery of San Pedro Claver, the palest of inquisition, the gold museum of Zenú (closed on Mondays), the cathedral, the church of Santo Domingo, and the barricade of Santo Domingo, Santiago and San Francisco Javier as well as other famous places.
Furthermore you will visit two monuments which are of great historical value outside the old city. San Felipe de Barajas is a fortress in order to defend the city. The monastery and the church of La Candelaria on the hill de La Popa are outstanding examples of religious and colonial architecture. From here you will enjoy an amazing view.
Enjoy strolling through charming, romantic alleys and admire impressive colonial buildings as well as the city wall and the castle of San Felipe de Barajas, which was built during Spanish colonial times. The Inquisition Palace and the historic clock tower also bear memories of old times which make them liven up again in current times. Besides enjoy the nice warm breeze and relax in one of the beautiful natural parks in Cartagena.
