After breakfast you will head towards Villa de Leyva. On your way you will take a break in Zipaquira, the former center of salt production of the Musica Indiana. The main attraction is the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira. It consists entirely of salt, and thus this cathedral is located in a salt mine it belongs to the largest religious buildings in the world. The Salt Cathedral was opened in honor of the patron saint of the miners. In the afternoon you will head on to Villa de Leyva, a nice colonial village in Colombia. Today you explore the beautiful colonial town, Villa de Leyva. Discover its churches and Spanish colonial buildings as well as several sights in the surrounding of Villa de Leyva.

Furthermore you visit the Santo Ecce Homo Monastery. In 1620 it was built by Dominicans as a center of evangelization. You also visit the museum El Fosil with its fascinating collection of fossils. After breakfast, you continue your journey to Ráquira. In the language of the Chibcha, Ráquira means something like "City of the pots." It is known as the capital of the Colombian handicrafts. The city itself is painted in primary colors and has got a big place with lots of ceramic statues. Here you can watch how people perform their handcrafts you can one or more arts and crafts for yourself.
On your way back to Bogotá you will stop at the „Laguna de Guatavita“ where you will follow the legend of „El Dorado“. This crater lake is situated at an altitude of 3.000 meters. This legend is says that heir to the throne were crowned here. During these ceremonies gold offerings were sunk. According to the legend, alligators, grogs, fish and monkeys made of pure gold were fished from the lake whereupon the legendary treasure of the „El Dorado“ is still untraceable. You walk up a steep path up to 3.000 meters until you reach the crater rim. From here you will see the magic looking lagoon. Your guide will tell you the history of this magical place as you walk along the crater rim. In the late afternoon you will return to the capital of Colombia. Today you will head to the huge rock “La Piedra del Peñol” which is located 80km northwest of Medellin. You can climb 750 steps up to the top and enjoy an amazing view of the surrounding countryside with numerous lakes.
Then you will continue your trip to Guatapé, a charming little village just 20 minutes from “Piedra del Peñol”. It consists of colorful houses with all kinds of decoration and trim. Each house shows the artistic ability of its owner. The paintings on the home express the traditions of this region. Each panel has its own style of window decoration, consisting of flowers, animals, or characters that got inspired by the Spanish colonial times.
