On today’s agenda: A city Tour through Colombia’s capital.
Your trip starts by heading to the Monserrate hill. The cable car takes you up to the top of Monserrate, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the bustling metropolis of Bogotá. Here you will have lunch in one of the great restaurants surrounded by an amazing view. Afterwards you will visit the historic downtown of Bogotá “La Candelaria” with its magnificent churches, the government palace and the "Plaza Bolivar.” Furthermore you will visit the famous gold museum “Museo del Oro” (closed on Mondays) and the Esmeralda museum (closed on Sundays) as well as the museum of Botero where you can marvel at the many great art works of the famous Colombian artist – for example the “Mona Lisa” in exaggerated shape.
Bogotá is an inspiring city that has something new to offer every day. In 2010, Bogotá was selected as a Must See Destination by the renowned newspaper The New York Times.

After breakfast you will head towards Villa de Leyva. On your way you will take a break in Zipaquira, the former center of salt production of the Musica Indiana. The main attraction is the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira. It consists entirely of salt, and thus this cathedral is located in a salt mine it belongs to the largest religious buildings in the world. The Salt Cathedral was opened in honor of the patron saint of the miners. Then you will head on to the Lagoon Guatavita.
After your visit at the famous gold museum in Bogotá yesterday, you will follow the legend of „El Dorado“ by visiting the „Laguna de Guatavita“ today. This crater lake is situated at an altitude of 3.000 meters. This legend is says that heir to the throne were crowned here. During these ceremonies gold offerings were sunk. According to the legend, alligators, grogs, fish and monkeys made of pure gold were fished from the lake whereupon the legendary treasure of the „El Dorado“ is still untraceable. You walk up a steep path up to 3.000 meters until you reach the crater rim. From here you will see the magic looking lagoon. Your guide will tell you the history of this magical place as you walk along the crater rim.

Today you will leave Colombia´s booming capital city and will head towards Bucaramanga, a city known for its parks. It is also known as the cleanest city of Colombia. From here you will head on to the picturesque colonial town Barichara.Tag 5Day Trip through different colonial villages
In the morning you will start your tour through different picturesque little colonial towns of Santander. You will visit the little town of San Gil which is famous as the paradise for outdoor activities. Here you will visit the national monument park. In the morning you will head to the National Park of Chicamocha. One of the greatest attractions of the park is the Chicamocha Canyon which might be comparable with Grand Canyon in the United States as it belongs to one of the biggest canyons in the world. This impressive landscape is best seen by taking a ride with the longest cable car of South America which can be found here. Take a ride in the metro cable which is being used as a mass transportation within Medellín and visit the Spanish Library Park which shows a famous architectural structure. Today you will head to the huge rock “La Piedra del Peñol” which is located 80km northwest of Medellin. You can climb 750 steps up to the top and enjoy an amazing view of the surrounding countryside with numerous lakes.
Then you will continue your trip to Guatapé, a charming little village just 20 minutes from “Piedra del Peñol”. It consists of colorful houses with all kinds of decoration and trim. Each house shows the artistic ability of its owner. The paintings on the home express the traditions of this region. Each panel has its own style of window decoration, consisting of flowers, animals, or characters that got inspired by the Spanish colonial times. Besides that some dancers will perform a typical dance in their traditional clothes for you. Get carried away by the smell and taste of one of the best coffees of the world – the Colombian one!
Furthermore you will explore the botanical garden "Jardin Botanico del Quindío" which is situated about 15 kilometers from the city of Armenia. Cartagena is one of the main tourist attractions in Colombia, also known as the "Pearl of the Caribbean" and it is the main destination for culture and history. 1984 Cartagena has been declared as a World Culture Heritage by the UNESCO.
