The Cocora Valley is located in the Quindío department. The valley is part of the Nevados Natural Park. The Valley was named after a particular bird found in the area; in the Quimbaya community there was as well a Princess with this ancient name, which means “Star of water.” Cocora Valley is also home of Colombia´s national tree, the wax palm which is amongst the highest palms in the world they can reach a height of 70 meters. Another region is "La Carbonera" where you can find this impressing landscape of huge wax palm forests, is located up to 3.800 meters above sea level about 2 hours from Salento, taking an antique path which has been used by indigenous tribes for more than 800 years.
